But what was so important about these Link Loots? On Wednesday night the freshmen of UCF gathered in the Pegasus Ballroom for the annual Link Loot auction. After registering I found out that I had 6,000 points and felt confident about my chances of winning one of the many items located on the prize table in the front of the room.

Soon after the auction began I realized that my point count was no match to my fellow classmates. Each link loot point accumulated during the fall semester could go towards winning some pretty sweet prizes. A 32 inch flat screen TV, Blue Ray Player, mountain bike, PS3 gaming system and the Wii just to name a few.

The most anticipated prize of the night was a giant tuition check that sold for 73,000 points. 2 students bid an equal amount and therefore the winner was determined in a best out of 3 rock paper scissors show down. At the end of the night I unfortunatley left empty handed but the experience has inspired me to collect more loot next semester!!

Offering 200 free tickets to Concert Knight starring T-Pain, Asher Roth and Luke Brian for the first to arrive as enough incentive for some students to come out.

Throughout Late Knights’ existence, it has seen great success and continues to attract over 2000 students each time. This month’s “American” theme had students waving inflatable flags, displaying their patriotism. Other activities included a tree climb, human bowling, log rolling, a sports challenge, a ladder climb and much more.

The next Late Knights event is scheduled for January 29, 2010 in the Student Union.

You know that miniature mummy you swore you saw walking across the street Sunday morning?

You weren’t having a hallucination caused by last night’s keg stand, rather you saw a local participant of Trick or Treat on Greek Street.

This annual event brings local families to the UCF campus for a safe alternative Halloween experience.

Thanks to the UCF police and the Pan-Hellenic society’s partnership, the entire Greek Row was blocked off between 12:00pm and 4:00pm this past Sunday.

UCF Greek Life invited the Boys and Girls club of Orlando to enjoy the festivities as well as families from neighboring communities to take part in the many fun-filled games and art projects.

Because of this year’s “Knightro under the Big-Top” homecoming theme, activities were geared toward a circus idea. Events included such things as a clown academy, face painting, a bounce house and an obstacle course.

Besides having a good time, many UCF sororities and fraternities worked together for months to plan this event.

The words of one young trick-or-treater summed it up: “I’m having a lot of fun, it’s really cool to come and play games and get candy before actual Halloween.”

Judging by the smiles from kids and parents alike, Trick or Treat on Greek Street was a success once again.

Participants in the first annual BoJangles competitive eating contest did….and a lot of them. BoJangles, famous for their Chicken ‘n Biscuits decided to host the event to expose UCF students to a real southern staple. Forty-five hungry contestants assembled in the restaurant’s parking lot on Saturday afternoon for the chance to win a $500 cash prize. That’s a lot of dough.

To be eligible to compete, interested entrants’ names were placed in a bowl, and 44 lucky men and and one woman were randomly selected and officially eligible to enter. Hopefuls were split up into three groups and each had five minutes to chow down as many biscuits as they could. Each contender was given a platter containing approximately 30 biscuits and 2 cups of water.

As the first half began, participants chewed effortlessly; but as the clock ticked, the pace slowed and the heaviness of the meal began to set in. After each group was finished, a five minute “quarantine period” was put in effect. Eaters had to keep all their food down during this time to be qualified to win.

At the end of a long afternoon, judges tallied up the scores and the award ceremony began. The 2nd place winner Ricky Montero ate a whopping 15 biscuits earning him a $100 dollar gift card to BoJangles. Being one of the smallest contestants, strategy played a major role in his 2nd place victory. “It’s a mind over matter thing; if you put your mind to it you can do it.”

The first place winner Kasey Kees winning by just a bite with 15 and a half biscuits was shocked and thrilled to be the biscuit champion. When asked how he prepared for the contest he said, “Last week my brother and I split a 6lbs can of ravioli…and I ate 10 ounce hamburgers with extra 10 ounce patties; I made a hobby of eating a lot as quickly as possible.”

After shaking hands with restaurant employees and proudly displaying his giant check to onlookers, Kees reveled how he will spend his $500 prize money. “Utility bills.”

A chilly Saturday morning couldn’t stop the University of Central Florida Knights from a victory over the The University of Miami’s Mens Club soccer team.

Early in the first half, UM put pressure on the Knights defense but the team stayed strong sharing equal possession with the Canes.

With neither team scoring in the first half, Knights Coach Fazal Rehmani adjusted the lineup putting some fresh legs on the field. Within the first five minutes of the 2nd half, Knights offense controlled the ball pushing through UM’s defense. After two shot attempts left mid-fielder Andrew Williams scored the opening goal.

Fifteen minutes into the second half forward Taylor Moore scored the 2nd goal with an assist by mid-fielder Kamal Cudjoe. With a goal from UM with 7 minutes left in the game, goal keeper Andrew Kimpland made big saves keeping UM at bay.

With three minutes left, a surprise goal from center mid-fielder Brian Phillips sealed the Knights win. The Knight 3-1 win over UM puts the team in first place in their league. With an undefeated record the Knights face FSU in Tallahassee next Saturday. Go Knights!
