The Jaws ride opened in 1990 with the park and is based on Steven Spielberg’s famous Jaws film. Universal Studios released this message from their Facebook page announcing the change:

“We know you love JAWS! and we do too. It has been an amazing attraction and after terrorizing the waters of Amity here at Universal Orlando for 20 years, it’s a VERY important part of our history. So, we’ve got a couple things planned to ensure we always remember and honor it. We know it’s hard to say goodbye, but we can’t express how EXCITED we are about the new, innovative & amazing experience we’re going to be bringing you.”

Several rumors have been opening up on the internet about what will replace the attraction including talks of a Transformers ride, a Hobbit attraction, or a completely new experience. However, an anonymous source says a phase II Wizarding World of Harry Potter is likely to be coming, along with the high possibility of a link that would connect Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in some way. It is said that the Amity Island portion of the park will contain rides, shops and restaurants.

All this expansion news follows an announcement that a Harry Potter attraction will be heading west to Universal Studios Hollywood and will open sometime in the next couple of years.

We await news from Universal Studios regarding the changes but it seems with the new owners in hand the park is sure to see many upgrades.

According to the report, Knight’s Pantry has given away over 5,000 lbs of food this semester.

The contest was held this past Saturday at Memory Mall and has so far raised 40,000 pounds of food for the North American Food Drive.

According to the event’s Facebook group, “the sorority with the most amount of food raised and donated along with total points will win Watermelon Bust and will be selected to have Pirate WEEK with Lambda Chi in the spring.”

The overall winner of the event was the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, followed by Kappa Kappa Gamma and Zeta Tau Alpha.

The event was sponsored by local organizations, including satirical DC website thewashingtonfancy.com.

The event was held at the ATO house in Greek Park and featured the artists Shwayze and Cisco Adler.

Rock the Wreath started in 2004, and since then has raised over $60,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network in Central Florida.

It has brought artists in the past like Hawthorne Heights, Mayday Parade, Between the Trees, Gym Class Heroes, We the Kings and Big Sean.

Highly awaited performers Panic! At the Disco and Lupe Fiasco sang several of their most well-known songs including Panic!’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” and from Lupe’s latest album Lasers, “The Show Goes On.” Between Panic! At the Disco lead singer Brendon Urie’s eccentric performance style and Lupe’s drenching of the front crowd, student response of the show overall seemed positive.

As you can see in the video, Cain addresses a host of issues including whether he’d accept a vice presidential spot, gays in the military, muslim terrorism — and even those infamous $16 muffins bought for government officials on the taxpayer’s dime.

Cain is polling at second-place for US President among Florida voters, according to a statement from SurveyUSA.

“In the Florida Republican Primary for President, Mitt Romney at 27% edges Herman Cain at 25%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for WFLA-TV Tampa. Rick Perry finishes 3rd with 13%, others further back. The Primary is tentatively, and controversially, scheduled for 4 months from today, on 01/31/12.

“Romney is strong among older voters, women, moderates and in Southeast Florida. Cain is strong among men, younger voters, Tea Party members, affluent voters and in Northeast Florida. Perry is strong among those who say they are “very conservative,” among those who attend religious services regularly, among Evangelicals and in Northwest Florida.”

The other front-runners in the national polls, Mitt Romney and Rick Perry, declined to talk to KnightNews.com or other media gathered to interview candidates in Orlando following the straw poll. The first one has to do with graduate funding and the second is asking students whether they are in favor of an alcohol emergency policy (AEP).

AEP is a weaker form of medical amnesty that does not include protecting students from school punishment for saving their friends that are overdosing on all drugs, but instead only protects students who have been drinking alcohol.

Support for reforming UCF’s alcohol policy has grown in the wake of Ann Hefferin’s death, who died after a fraternity party. It’s still not known, however, if alcohol contributed to her death.
