“GreenWaves III is taking concerts to the next level,” said Christian Damon, Director of Concerts for the UCF Campus Activities Board. “Not only are we bringing top tier talent to UCF’s campus for free, but we are also pairing it with the most intense production and special effects ever used in a CAB show.”

With this, CAB has acquired a “Piezo” dance floor that converts dancing from the crowd into electricity that will bring the lighting and special effects to life. The “Piezo” flooring technology has gained attention in Europe, and GreenWaves III will be one of the first applications of this technology in the United States.

“We will be using the electricity created by the audience to fill up a battery, when this battery is full, you can be sure to expect some surprises,” said Damon.

Along with the increase in production quality and the “Piezo” flooring technology, CAB has attained headlining acts that top both the electronic and radio charts. These acts will include:

Alesso, a Swedish DJ and electronic dance music producer, most known for his collaboration “Calling” with Sebastian Ingrosso, will be headlining the show. Other acts include Dev, known mostly for her work with the Cataracs, released her debut album The Night the Sun Came Up on March 27, 2012; 3Lau, a house/bootleg/remix producer from Las Vegas, has gained notable popularity among the electronic dance music (EDM) scene for his remix of Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger”; and KillaGraham, an Orlando native who broke into the local music scene with his dubstep remix of Drake’s “I’m on One.”

GreenWaves III will follow the outdoor GreenWaves festival, which will feature “green” initiatives, activities, vendors and organizations that focus on the implementation, education, and awareness of the “green” movement towards sustainability. This festival is being organized through UCF’s Student Government Association’s Environmental Coalition (E.Co).

“We are excited to continue this collaboration with CAB and have brought this festival to a whole new level with the purchase of the ‘Piezo’ floor,” said Julian Belilty, SGA Sustainability Specialist. “The floor will be unveiled at the GreenWaves III concert and will then be permanently installed in our student union, thus reducing the amount of electricity used by the Student Union.”

Students will be able to get a sneak preview of GreenWaves III’s production at CAB’s comedy show, featuring Aziz Ansari, taking place on April 10, 2012, at 7 p.m. Doors for the GreenWaves III concert open at 6 p.m. and tickets are free for students. General admission tickets are $20 and can be purchased at all ticketmaster locations and online at ticketmaster.com.

It’s become very popular among students on Facebook, getting hundreds of likes.

The show started with opening act, Jay Larson. He was able to warm up the crowd with his jokes about being in the marching band and how there was a huge difference between being in “the band” and being in “a band” when it comes to impressing the ladies. He also went on to tell how he enjoys sneaking food into a movie theater and is able to get away with it by telling the employees he has diabetes. Finally he ended his half hour set with an amusing story of a group of business executives who had the wrong number and called him, and how we was able to convince them that he was one of their employees.

The next comedian to take the stage was Tommy Ryman, who was even funnier than the opener. He got the crowd laughing immediately after talking about his favorite show “The Deadliest Catch” and how it’s about a bunch of guys who catch crabs. He goes on to tell of how sometimes he likes to go down to the humane society and drop off stuffed animals, claiming they don’t love him like they used to and they should be put down. He ended his set strong, explaining how he enjoys making a bowl of soup with classical music in the background because it makes the process more epic and intense.

Finally the moment everyone in the arena had been waiting for. Students yelled and cheered as Nick Swardson took the stage, making this his fifth appearance at UCF. Nick made quite the entrance as he jumped off the stage and proceeded to high five students in the first couple of rows. He then went on to open up his set and goes on to praise the “gorgeous” Florida weather that he got to experience that day. Nick then goes on to talk about his amazement with how big of a school we are, boasting over 50,000 students. With such a large student body he jokingly asks why UCF students don’t gather together in a massive army like “Braveheart” and attack Disney World. He also explains how he wants to go to Epcot with everyone in the audience, each with a joint in hand, and smoke out the giant sphere in the park then push it down and roll it through Orlando. Nick also proclaimed his love for basketball and that he is a Magic fan because their name isn’t an animal like everyone else, but it’s something you can’t even see.

The audience cheered even louder when Nick claimed Florida as his number 1 party state. According to him, everyone in Florida loves to party, whether they are a baby doing a Jägerbomb or the old retired folks who just spend all their retirement money on booze. Then he describes his amazement with how many different kind of shots girls order at the bar. They are never regular shots he says, but rather something crazy like a “peanut butter burrito” shot.

Staying true to his love for partying, he explains his new fascination with day drinking. Just get really drunk by noon, he says, and then go about your regular errands throughout the day. Nick also touches on a topic that most college students have probably experienced once in their life. Waking up and receiving the “Are you alive?” text. He also points out an ad for Jack Daniels whiskey that he saw which read “Jack Daniels. Be Responsible.” Everyone in the audience agreed when he explains how being responsible in the last thing he can be on a Jack Daniels infused night. He goes on to say that the ad should be changed to “Jack Daniels. Good luck.” Nick also talks about a movie idea he wants to pitch that is based off of the blockbuster hit “Inception.” His version however is about invading wet dreams and it is called “Insertion.” He also describes his crazy life, living out in Los Angeles. The people there are different, he says. Some people are hardcore vegans and won’t even drink milk, but will more than happy do a line of cocaine.

Overall Nick put on a stellar performance and certainly did not disappoint. He stayed true to his roots in potty humor, and entertained everyone with his crazy party stories. Students were treated to a lot of new material along with some of his classic jokes sprinkled in as well. After a long day of nasty weather, the audience was happy to end it on a good note with this amazing performance. For those that missed the chance to see Nick Swardson live, you can still get your fix of his stand up on YouTube and fans can also look forward to a second season of his sketch comedy show “Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time” which will be coming back to Comedy Central soon.

Nick is a hilarious standup comedian, whose jokes focus around sex, partying, and farts. Nick’s jokes can certainly relate to many of the day to day events that college students go through. We’ve been contacted by numerous students across the country who are outraged by a growing fashion trend that many are calling ‘one of the fastest routes to social suicide.’ Jean shorts, or ‘jorts,’ as they’ve been dubbed, are being sold in large quantities around the globe, particularly at discount clothing retailers. KnightNews.com decided to investigate this article of clothing and find out real people’s opinion of them and what needs to be done.

Urban Dictionary defines jorts as the following:

“Jean shorts. Worn mostly by children and douchebags. Jorts are perhaps the easiest way to recognize people you will not like. If you wear jorts, you probably don’t talk to girls. The term “jorts” does not apply to jean shorts worn by black people, as those are entirely acceptable.”

Not this time.

No Strings Attached was awesome. Let’s start with the cast. Every guy in the theater wants to marry Natalie Portman, and every girl in the theater wants to marry Ashton Kutcher. They played their roles well, were convincing enough to not be classified as fake and cheesy and clearly had great chemistry together. Oh yea, and they are both hot.

As for the script, there were so many quotable lines, which gives this movie some longevity in society. Generally, it’s a story about a guy who falls for a girl who is not interested in a having relationship. This leaves for for all sorts of dialogue that audiences can relate to, especially in college crowds.

When a movie is quoted day-to-day, it helps to bring the movie into our culture – Seinfeld is most famous for this. One of such lines was by Portman, who, when called “smart” for her schooling at MIT, responds with, “my neck really hurts […] because my brain is so big.” Lines like this were evenly peppered throughout the film, keeping laugh-out-loud moments very homogeneous in the experience.

Of course there is plenty of the tacky chick flick romance, but that is to be expected in some capacity. This time, however, it was infused really tactfully with more of the traditional “guy humor.”

The closest a chick flick has come to capturing a male’s attention in the last five years was probably Devil Wears Prada. Well, I’ll say the devil can wear whatever he wants; this movie was more fun. If you are waiting for this to come out on DVD before you see it, be less cheap. Fork over the ten bucks – $29 if you want popcorn – and see it while everyone else is seeing it. Yes, it’s that good.

My only complaint of the film – and I think I speak for everyone of both genders – is that Natalie Portman didn’t have a nude scene.

Definitely check out this film – it makes for a great date movie. If you can’t find a date, I’ll go with you and see it again.
