His football coaches told Palm Beach media he was a “respectful” player — and the whole situation was hard to believe.

“I don’t know if he got himself mixed up in something out there, or if he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, Alfred Shipman told CBS 12. “I don’t understand why this happened to a kid of this caliber.”

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has not said what the motive was for this crime. We don’t know if it was drug-related, or if Perry was a random victim. KnightNews.com checked with both the Orange and Seminole County jails to see if he had ever been arrested for drugs or anything like that in the UCF area before. He wasn’t. However, he was arrested in Orange County for driving with a suspended license in November 2010.

Meanwhile, those who knew Perry continue to mourn.

“You know its very troubling, just the way this whole generation is going. It just didn’t seem like Frank would end up in that type of situation. He was always a good kid, he was always popular with the ladies, all the guys on the team loved him,” Shipman told CBS 12.

The deputies had to jump out of the way when they heard screeching tires barreling toward them.

“It was a very close call,” Trooper Montague Haight told ClickOrlando.com. “The officers would have been hit if they would not have been there and heard at the last second the squealing of the tires, they would have been hit by this car.”

No one was injured in the accident, but the woman was given a ticket for careless driving, the website reported.

Deputies were directing traffic at the time because of a water main break at Alafaya and Corporate.

Other than listing that one suspect went to Embry Riddle and another to Full Sail University in Orlando, Osceola deputies did not disclose which colleges the remaining six students attended. Osceola County, Florida – Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives concluded a week long, multi-agency, undercover operation which resulted in 40 suspects arrested and charged with soliciting sex from a child via the Internet and other sex and drug related crimes. Led by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Operation Red Cheeks was conducted January 8-16, 2012, in conjunction with detectives, officers and special agents of the Central Florida Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

“The success of this operation was the result of multiple local and state agencies working together in a cooperative effort. Florida Sheriffs and the Florida Sheriff’s Association has taken a strong proactive enforcement position to combat these predators statewide. These predators stalk the cyber community looking for children to victimize. This operation resulted in 40 arrests which means at a minimum, 40 children did not fall prey to a sexual deviant,” stated Sheriff Bob Hansell.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement worked with Citrus, Lake, Orange, Sumter, Polk, Hardee and Manatee County Sheriff’s Offices and Ocoee, Kissimmee, Sanford, Orlando, Longwood and Casselberry Police Departments. During the operation, undercover detectives from the agencies listed, posed as juveniles or the parent or guardian of a juvenile to talk with individuals in chat rooms and instant messaging programs on the Internet. Suspects would travel to an undercover house or secondary meeting location located in Osceola County with the purpose of having sex with a child. During the chats, most of the suspects sent pornographic images to the undercover detectives and they also brought alcohol, drugs and other items to the meeting. One suspect traveled from Georgia and another was on vacation from Alaska, but most were from cities in Florida. All the suspects were arrested in Osceola County.

The arrests included a head swim coach, a professional golfer on the Senior PGA Tour, an eighth grade teacher, business professionals and consultants and eight college students.

“This operation should also be a warning to all parents to monitor and be involved with their child’s computer activities,” said Sheriff Bob Hansell.

Update 5:10PM: The Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad has deemed the package not to be a threat. The package was an empty present box left by a UCF student, who forgot she left the box there. Check back for a video interview with the student soon.

Reports coming into KnightNews indicate that a suspicious package has been found in Parking Garage B.

UCF Police are on the scene and have shut down the garage, not allowing anyone in. UCF has confirmed the story, sending out an emergency alert around 4:30 pm.

A Florida law requires offenders to register with the Department of Law Enforcement and notify them of their place of residence. The state has set up a website that includes a searchable database for interested parties to view names, addresses and convictions of offenders.

The UCF Police Department has created a list to alert students about the offenders who live near the UCF campus in order to keep students safe.

The reports say Sami Osmakac, 25, a former Yugoslavian, was accused by federal authorities of planning to use a car bomb, assault rifle and other explosives. Osmakac also reportedly had been asking around for al-Qaida flags.

The Tampa Bay area is about 90 miles from UCF.

Beary thanked Waste Management driver Richard J. Nacewicz, who was in “the right place at the right time,” for calling UCF police and helping them arrest the Sigma Phi Epsilon alumni when he noticed them sneaking into the house, according to a UCF police release.

KnightNews.com broke the sorority burglary story last week, including how the house was familiar territory to Geers and Minot, as they both belonged to SigEp before the fraternity lost its house — and charter — following a hazing scandal that erupted in 2007. The Theta sorority eventually took over the former SigEp house.

This isn’t the first time a Waste Management worker has helped police. The company started a program for drivers early this year, instructing them to call police if they see a crime or suspicious people where they don’t belong, according to the UCFPD release.

The man responsible for catching the suspected sorority burglars in the act has been honored by his company before. He’s wears a “Top Gun” badge on his uniform, after being named driver of the year in 2010.

Geers and Minot never responded to KnightNews.com’s texts requesting comment, seeing if they’d tell their side of the story.

KnightNews.com has just confirmed with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that Demarcus Reddick, born 07/02/89, and Tre A. Daniels, born 10/28/91, were arrested and booked into jail on charges of First Degree Murder, related to that fatal shooting.

Reddick was arrested today at 8225 Claire Ann Drive in Orlando. That’s in an area south of Valencia College Lane, just west of the 417.

Daniels was arrested on December 8 at 2681 Aloma Ave. in Oviedo. That area of Aloma is also not far from UCF, about halfway between Dean Rd. and Chapman, northwest of campus.

UF Assault Twitter Alert

According to UF’s twitter page, a light skinned black male — carrying a knife — committed an armed assault around 10:08 p.m. on UF sorority row, near SW 5th Street and SW 12th Street.

The UF alert did not elaborate on what type of assault occurred, or provide further details other than that the suspect is to be considered dangerous, was wearing a black mask, brown shirt and shorts, stands 5’8 to 5’9 and has a raspy voice.
