By far our strongest area of the ball, our Defensive Line will make it difficult for every opposing offense to get into a rhythm. If you speak with anyone on the defensive line, you’ll see they have a definite swagger, but know they’re going to have to let their performance on the field do all the talking.
Key Players on the Defensive Line:
David Williams(LE) 6-2 232 RJr.- Coming off a disappointing season, David looks to get a lot of looks at the QB since both DT will be getting double teamed almost every play.
Travis Timmons (DT) 6-4 302 Sr. – Disappointed by last year’s performance, he’s promised to make sure his trash talking is warranted.
*Torrell Troup(DT) 6-3 315 Sr. – One of 40 players selected to the Outland Trophy Watch List, Torrell will not disappoint this year and will be looking to make every play count in his journey to play on Sundays.
*Bruce Miller(RE) 6-2 258 RJr. – Said he is looking forward to all the attention towards the DT’s this year. Bruce collected 7.5 sacks his Fr. year and 7.0 his So. year. Look for Bruce to break double digits and be a constant thorn in QB’s sides.
Chris Martin (DT) 6-5 279 Fr.- This guy is huge, he is just a monster. And when I asked around, the other players on the defense said the only question is how much he wants it. If this guy leaves it all on the field, he is going to be a terror.
Others in the Mix: Darius Nall, Jarvis Geathers, Rashidi Haughton
Strengths: Torrell and Travis will clog the running lanes, demand double teams, and if they aren’t double teamed they will make the plays.
Weaknesses: Need more production from David Williams, if he can produce and make plays on the left side this will be a Knightmare of a defense
Position Overview: Average size of opposing OT’s 6-5 302 < Torrell Troup 6-3 315 & Travis Timmons 6-4 302. Not only will they dominate but they will make every other player on defense better.
The leaders on this team, our LB crew is deep and looking to make us forget about their injury plagued careers.
Key players at Linebacker:
*Jordan Richards (OLB) 6-2 222 Sr. – Jordan loves to hit hard every play, the only problem is his hard hitting ways usually gets him injured. If Jordan can stay healthy, there will be lots of highlights on defense and fewer missed tackles.
*Cory Hogue (MLB) 6-1 224 Sr. – Cory has also had some injury problems but he is so vital to this team’s success. Cory is the leader and director of the defense and will be looked upon to make big plays in the open field.
Lawrence Young (OLB) 6-0 218 Jr. – Got a lot of playing time with Jordan and Cory being injured, and made the best of it recording 72 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and 1 Int.
Others in the Mix: Josh Linam, Chance Henderson, Alex Thompson
Strengths: Depth and Leadership are the two words that come to mind when speaking of the LB crew. Jordan and Cory are both going to lead the defense to another stellar year.
Weaknesses: Injuries. Just imagine what this LB crew could do if they all stay healthy.
Position Overview: Look for fewer injuries and missed tackles this year. If we can get both of those from this LB crew, it will only make the highlight reel hits that much sweeter.
