Saturday’s game at East Carolina was filled with missed tackles, poor kicking, missed tackles, dropped passes, missed tackles, costly turnovers, and did I say missed tackles? The Knights lost 19-14 to East Carolina to put them at 0-2 in Conference USA.
Watching the Knights on defense reminded me of an episode of Family Guy as Peter Griffin failed to take down the “Greased up Deaf Guy” time and time again. Today was no different from that episode of Family Guy, as you may have been able to find a can of Crisco on the East Carolina sideline.
Brynn Harvey scored on a 19 yard run to put the Knights up 7-0 after Lawrence Young recovered a fumble.
After Harvey punched it in the end zone, nothing seemed to go right for the Knights. Brendan Kelly’s fumble in the 1st quarter started all the hair pulling for the Knights and by the end of the game most Knight Fans resembled Mr. Clean.
East Carolina scored 19 straight to thwart the Knights from their first Conference USA win.
Kicking troubles returned this week as Nick Cattoi had a 26 yard field goal blocked and missed short on a 45 yard field goal.
Brett Hodges went 21 of 33 for 266 yards with 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions. Brynn Harvey ran for 71 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. The leading WR was AJ Guyton who had 119 yards on 9 catches.
The Knights had quite a scare when Jordan Richards left the game on a stretcher with a possible neck injury but report is in that the injury isn’t serious.
The Knights decided to tease their fans once again when they scored and recovered an onside kick with 1:04 left in the game.
Just as Knights fans’ hopes were up, it looked like Brett Hodges was going to lead the offense down the field to score the game winning TD. But the line for the potential game winning drive was 1 play, 2 penalties and 1 interception.
Missed opportunities have the Knights scratching their heads because this was a game they should have won.
Up Next… Winless Memphis, who lost today to Marshall 27-16, travels to UCF next week for Family Weekend.
