The UCF Women’s Volleyball team is going to be a team to watch this year.

The Knights won the Radisson-UCF Invitational recently held in The Venue, winning every set except the first one against Jacksonville. However, after losing that first of the season the Knights have not faltered again, winning every other set of the invitational (15 total sets).

During the invitational, the Knights beat Jacksonville 3-1, North Florida 3-0, Florida Atlantic 3-0, and DePaul 3-0. On Tuesday Sept. 1, at their first away game of the season, they also beat Bethune-Cookman 3-0.

When you walk into The Venue, you can see that the UCF Women’s Volleyball team has a history of winning multiple conference championships before, and even one national championship in 1978.

However, since entering C-USA, the team has not managed to acquire another conference championship.

It seems like that may change this year.

According to UCF Athletics, this 6-2 start is the best start to a season for the Knights since 2001.

In addition, last year the Knights acquired a new coach with a great record, Todd Dagenais. (To read his bio visit http://ucfathletics.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/dagenais_todd00.html)

The Knights recently traveled to Texas to be part of the Baylor Classic in Waco, Texas. There, they challenged their hardest competitors yet, previously No. 24 ranked Purdue, as well as Baylor and Texas-San Antonio. The Knights found their first and only two loses of the season against Baylor 3-0 and Purdue 3-2. However, they were able to add another win, over taking Texas-San Antonio 3-1.

The Knights have 16 home games this year.

The games are very exciting this year, especially with the band playing the UCF fight song and chanting during time-outs. At the Marching Knights’ Wednesday night practice, Coach Dagenais told them that the team really loves having the band at their games, and that they help them play harder. He even went so far as to say that the band accounts for “6 points a game.”

This is the first time the band has played at women’s volleyball games.

The band was at the DePaul game, where over half of The Venue was filled with fans watching the game.

The Knights travel to Greensboro, North Carolina on Friday, September 11th to face High Point and UNC Greensboro.

The next home game for the Knights will be on September 15th against USF at 7:00 pm. This game will be televised locally on Bright House channel 47.

According to UCF Athletics, the first 1,000 students will receive a free ticket to the UCF-Miami football game on October 17th.

The volleyball game is expected to be a sell-out game and filled with plenty of fun and excitement. So, if you like volleyball, head over on September 15th to get your UCF-Miami football game ticket and enjoy an exciting volleyball game.
