Dear Presidents and Delegates,

I would like to thank everyone for their support over the past week and I am honored to be serving as your 2010-2011 IFC Vice President of Recruitment. I am very excited to have the chance to make a positive difference in the Greek Community at UCF!

For those of you who do not know, IFC will not be able to host any recruitment events at Lake Claire this coming semester. This is a challenging situation but an opportunity to have the best, most innovative Rush Week to date! In an effort to remain as fair and transparent as possible, I have examined all possible solutions and have given my input below.

This will be voted on at the IFC meeting on September 29, 2010. Please talk with your chapters about these options and email me any issues you have before that time.

Possible Locations for Spring 2011 Rush:

● Memory Mall: Every fraternity (housed included) would rush out of Memory Mall. There is a great deal of “foot-traffic” through this area, plenty of parking, and we would be permitted to keep our tents up all three nights of rush. Reservations in this space fill up very quickly, so we have taken the liberty of reserving it for the second week of the Spring Semester, January 19-21. (This would require a vote to move the Rush to the second week of the semester-which we have done before.) Memory Mall has a sound policy and there will be several classes in-session during the event. Because of this, IFC will provide a centralized DJ for the event.

●Greek Park: In this situation we would have the 4 housed fraternities rush out of their houses and the remaining 14 fraternities set up tents along Greek Park (we are expected to have 18 fraternities this spring). There are not enough spaces to put all of the fraternities and we would have to close the road for three days. Each sorority house is privately owned and has specific rules. From the House Corporations that we have contacted we received a great deal of negative feedback. Any damage to the sorority houses (including their lawns, sprinkler systems, landscaping, etc.) would be billed to the fraternity occupying that space.

●Arena: This solution would involve having the fraternities rush inside the UCF Arena. There would be a strict limit on how many members each chapter could bring to this event. It would be very expensive and most likely not feasible to rent the event for 3 nights.

●Grass Lot Near the Stadium: In this solution, the fraternities would set up directly behind the UCF stadium. This area is controlled and would need to be rented through UCF Athletics. Staking tents down at this location would most likely not be permitted. Parking and advertising for the event would be an issue. People would not be able to drive their cars up to this area.

●IM Fields: IFC sponsored a recruitment event this summer that did not bring out the amount of people that would be conducive to chapter growth. We would not be able to “stake” anything (including tents) in this field. Also, IM sports use this field-so we would not be able to have it for all three nights.

●“Pike” Lot and Lot E8: These are overflow parking lots and Parking Services would not allow us to stake our tents down and take up that much parking for three days.

Again, please bring these options to your chapter and send me any questions you have. We will be voting on this at the IFC meeting on September 29, 2010.

Thank you for taking the time to read this very long email! Please discuss this information with your chapter and will be prepared for some exciting changes coming your way! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at ifcrecruitment@mail.ucf.edu.
