MTV’s new project, the Lingerie Football League (LFL), began its trial run in Orlando last Friday night as the expansion “Orlando Fantasy” took the field against the Tampa Breeze at the UCF Arena.
The LFL, which is aired on MTV 2 every Friday night at 10 pm, is more entertainment than an actual athletic event. Organized plays, strategy, and sportsmanship aren’t really qualities that are part of the Lingerie League, but cat fights, hot women, and lingerie are.
Clad in powder blue uniforms, the Fantasy appeared a little rattled in their season opener against the rival Tampa Breeze in front of a small crowd at UCF. The Breeze, who were part of the league last year and listed as the preseason title favorites, dominated the game with a 47-6 victory.
Tampa scored on their first four possessions in a row and held a 28-0 advantage at the half. Compared to the Fantasy, the Breeze looked calm and organized, and actually had several set plays. They had a decent run game and even some long passes that stumped the Orlando defense.
The Fantasy had trouble on offense on almost every possession, with quarterback Veronica Moor throwing three interceptions in the game. The Fantasy also had several fumbles as the Breeze were able to capitalize on their inexperience.
Orlando was able to get their one and only score of the game early in the second half on a passing touchdown from Moor that made the score 28-6. In the LFL, there are no field goals, just one and two point conversions depending on what the team opts to do.
Although, the Fantasy weren’t able to produce much on the field, they certainly succeeded with entertainment. In one play, one of the Fantasy girls pushed the referee after a call she didn’t agree with. In addition, there were constant scuffles and trash talking between the opponents that gave the game more of a staged feel than an actual game on the gridiron.
The Fantasy will look to rebound when they travel to Baltimore to play the Charm on November 5th at 9 pm in their road opener.
