Head coach George O’Leary didn’t have to look far for a replacement at defensive coordinator.
UCF officials held a press conference Friday afternoon to announce the promotion of John Skladany to defensive coordinator, a positon that was held by Dave Huxtable, who left the program to join the staff at Wisconsin.
In addition to promoting Skladany, O’Leary also added former Maryland linebackers coach Al Seamonson, who will fill Skladany’s former position as linebackers coach.
Skladany was formerly the defensive coordinator for the Knights in 2007, a year in which the defense led UCF to their first Conference USA Championship in school history and a birth in the Autozone Liberty Bowl.
Seamonson, a 28-year veteran, comes to the UCF coaching staff after spending the last 10 years as a linebackers coach at Maryland. He helped lead the Terripans to seven bowl appearances during his tenure and has coached numerous big-time athletes, including former San Diego and current Buffalo Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman.
