The second annual Green Waves concert is set to hit the UCF arena this Sunday. It promises to entertain, engage, inspire and activate your mind. The goal is to promote ideas and practice going green– to use renewable energy sources, conserve energy, minimize waste and maximize utility, promote sustainable solutions, all while at the same time enjoying some great live music. Headlining artists include Anberlin, J. Cole, We The Kings, The Movement, Big D and the Kids Table, and Orlando natives The Supervillains. Many local acts will be there as well such as, Orange Avenue, My Only Hero, Junior Doctor and many more.
Accompanying the wide array of live acts, Green Waves will also host a variety of green activities from various organizations:
The RUNbus, hosted by Drewwda Love, is an old school bus converted to run on waste vegetable oil. This school bus has been chopped, retrofitted, and under gone extensive modification to carry out a foldout stage. RUNbus is the premier mobile sustainable venue providing off-the-grid power, turnkey production, and an eye-catching attraction for entertainment.
Paddle-Em Powering E-Generation Stations will be placed in the vicinity of the RUNbus and will give guests the opportunity to ride bikes in order to produce energy which in turn will help charge the RUNbus battery bank.
Human (r)Evolution Record Spin Art is a people powered art space where guests can turn old scratched records into cool festival memorabilia. This will be an opportunity for UCF’s Eco Advocates to fundraise for one Green Waves charity initiative, which will help to send UCF students to Washington, D.C. for the Power Shift conference.
A Community Action Art and Expressions Wall will have an old privacy fence that will be up-cycled into a community art and expression project. The fence will be wrapped in canvass for guests to co-create with their community.
Pollution Solutions is an area set up for the visionary thinkers that have ideas to make the world better. Anyone here can read about and see new advancements in science and technology that will help our environment. This station will also feature an electric motorcycle, electric car, solar car, Hydrogen-On-Demand, aquaculture, and more.
Two Recycle Centers will be placed in high flow traffic areas throughout the area and each center will act as an education point, and will help to promote a waste diversion goal of 85%. Green Waves is in the middle of the “Recylemania” contest that is heavily promoted by fellow partners Aramark, IDEAS, Sustainability and Energy Management, UCF Recycles, and many more groups across campus. Volunteers will help guests throw their trash in the right place while they give guests facts about waste. Additional volunteers will be given a large bag to do “Roaming Recycling”.
Other sponsors that will be at the event include Sterling Central Apartments who will be advertising the “Green” apartment complex across the street from campus and will provide corn hole and other fun activities. Verizon will set up an electronic waste collection site for old cell phones, and other broken electronics to be properly recycled. Vega will be promoting health and wellness with delicious vegan friendly meal supplements. The Florida Film Festival will be having ticket giveaways promoting their festival at the Enzian Theatre as well.
If you have time and want to see some live music while learning how to help your environment, then make sure to come out to Green Waves this Sunday March 20 at the UCF Arena. The event will be starting at noon and will go on until midnight. Doors to the arena will be opening at 5:30 P.M. I’m excited to see We the Kings! They’re from my hometown back in Bradenton, Fl. I’ve supported them ever since they were nothing more than just a local band, and I was a Freshman in high school.
im excited to see all of them!! but mostly we the kings and j cole
J. Cole because he’s raw, lyrics are from his life experiences, and very original.
Can’t wait to see Lilly and the Tigers. Caught there first acoustic set this week at Natura Cafe and was really impressed. They are apparently having there first ever show with the full band at Greenwaves. Excited!!!
Big D and the Kids Table!!
Anberlin is the shit. They make love to the crowd every show.
I just recently discovered J. Cole and have 3 of his mixtapes, plus other songs of his, on repeat where ever I am. I enjoy the banging beats when at the gym and need that extra push to keep going, and his lyrical genius when I’m walking to class or just doing homework because what he says makes me think. He is a standout from other upcoming artists in hip-hop and that is what I respect the most about J. Cole.
I am excited to J.Cole because his music is not the same old garbage you hear on the radio. is lyrics are different. He doesn’t rap about having money and getting all the girls. He writes something that we can relate to. Plus, through his songs he tells us his experiences in his life
