The Beach Boys today tour with Mike Love and Bruce Johnston from the old days. Though without any of the Wilson brothers, they still provide their trademark tight harmonies. One of the best examples is “Sloop John B,” the biggest hit of the Beach Boys’ landmark “Pet Sounds” album. The song is an updated version of a West Indies folk song. On my Rockaeology blog at http://bit.ly/f5yfvE I write that Brian Wilson was inspired to create “Pet Sounds” after hearing the Beatles’ “Rubber Soul” – “a whole album with all good stuff.”
