Forget driving 30 minutes to Winter Park to enjoy delectable barbecue. 4Rivers Smokehouse is opening a new location in the Waterford Lakes area, near the University of Central Florida.
KnightNews.com contacted 4Rivers about a month ago when we began hearing rumors regarding the proposed expansion. A PR rep from the smokehouse did not confirm, nor deny the rumor about 4Rivers opening a new location in Waterford, but simply said a deal was in the works.
Since then, KnightNews.com has learned from a source close to the situation that 4Rivers does indeed plan to open a new 4 Rivers Smokehouse location near Waterford by 2013.
For those who don’t know, 4Rivers Smokehouse is a local barbecue owned by John Rivers, the former President of CuraScript Specialty Distribution as well as once Director of Strategic Business Group for Johnson & Johnson. Rivers retired from the corporate life in October of 2009 to start the first 4 Rivers smokehouse. Since then, the restaurant has expanded to three locations around Central Florida with each location smoking more than 15,000 pounds of meat a week!
Other locations are expected to pop up around Florida as well, especially near college universities. The Orlando Business Journal reports new locations expected at 9220 Baymeadows Road, about eight miles from the University of North Florida’s main campus in Jacksonville and 3262 S.W. Archer Road in Gainesville near the University of Florida main campus.
In other restaurant news, UCF’s own Student Union will be adding Huey Magoos to its food court, next to Asian Chao.
