Could UCF’s first football game of the 2014 season happen in Ireland?
According to the Orlando Sentinel, UCF is in talks to play Penn State in Dublin, Ireland, to open the 2014 football season. The Sentinel reports that sources tell them some negotiation are underway, but it is a matter of logistics and money.
“We have talked to them about being a potential opponent, but we are far from an agreement,” David Hansen, UCF senior associate athletics director for internal operations, told the Sentinel. “Logistically, it’s not easy.”
Sources told the Orlando Sentinel that it would cost at least $1 million to play the game overseas, but would only be worth it for UCF if they could turn a profit.
The Knights and Nittany Lions would look to play at either Aviva Stadium or Croke Park in Dublin, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
