Five people have been arrested and nearly 3,000 pounds of marijuana have been seized after police found the drugs aboard a tour bus parked on International drive, WKMG Local 6 reports.
“That might be the most I’ve ever seen here in Orlando,” Larry Zwieg, director of the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation told Local 6.
Zwieg told Local 6 that the marijuana was being transported by a Jamaican drug trafficking organization and was to be distributed throughout the state.
“We are looking further into the organization. We are looking further into this couple who were driving the RV,” he said to Local 6.
According to Local 6, the driver of the bus, Mukesh Rampersad, 51, and his wife Shamila Rampersad, 38, were arrested after by police early Sunday. Zwieg tells the news outlet that agents pulled 2,777 pounds of marijuana from the bus.
According to county records retrieved by Local 6, Shamila Rampersad was released on Sunday on a $100,150 cash bond, and her husband was released the same day on a $100,300 surety bond.
“If they can come with that kind of a bond that quickly, obviously they’ve been doing this for a while, so the investigation continues and we expect to make further arrests,” said Zwieg to Local 6.
Three others, Affri Chang, Courtney Hutchinson, and Gary Simmonds were also arrested for their involvement.
