A group of UCF students is teaming up to help supply local elementary school students with food, books, and money for the school’s Literacy Night.
Team Backbone, the group of UCF students working towards the goal, is fundraising for Hidden Oaks Elementary to help ensure each family has a book to take home at the end of the evening and allow these young students to leave full of food and knowledge. Team Backbone is asking the community to join them on Tuesday September 24 from 6-8 p.m. at iKiwi to push them towards their goal.
“After working at a summer camp, Chen-A-Wanda, for 5 summers, I have realized my love for kids and see how important it is to teach them,” Aaron Tell, one of the group members, said. “I love working with and being able to teach kids being that they are fun and brilliant.”
The group’s ultimate goal is to help host Literacy Night for the school’s students and parents: a night where each kid will have the opportunity to hear book read aloud and get the chance to leave with their own book.
“The community’s help would be much appreciated to help with our efforts to raise enough money for food and books to help the children of Hidden Oaks Elementary,” Tell says.
