A new Publix (Store #1440) opened up its doors in the Town Park shopping center off of East Colonial Drive on Saturday.

The opening of this new store began its development by Halvorsen Holdings LLC to accommodate for the shutdown of the previous store that had once thrived just down the street at the Alafaya Commons shopping center.

The development of the new store became a reality when Publix Super Markets decided it was time for a change. The old store at Alafaya Commons was in a building that Publix did not own. This means that they had been leasing the property during the time of operations. In fact, the building that the old Publix was located in was about 30 years old. With the new property, Publix will be able to make their own changes because the company purchased the new location.

Jeff Farley, the store manager of the new Publix, stated that, “[Publix] has a very strict remodel schedule of its facilities. The stores tend to be updated every five or so years so to better serve our customers and make sure that our associates are better equipped at taking care of our customers. The old facility had exceeded its life cycle.”

All of the employees from the previous store were able to secure their jobs at the new Publix, so customers who developed relationships with many employees will be able to continue to receive excellent service from some familiar faces. Publix prides itself on the working environment that it creates, and so with this new location the experience lives on.

Customers who feared having to travel farther for their grocery needs once hearing about the Alafaya Commons store closing down will be able to kick back and enjoy this well located new store that will feature 45,600 square feet. The new location is only a block away from the previous location, making it a prime position for oncoming traffic from the highway and Woodbury Road, and will attract the customers from the old store.

According to Orlando Business Journal, Halvorsen Holdings LLC, which built the new Publix, is also adding to its Town Park shopping center by building apartments. A 12.5-acre site will boast 240 new apartments that are sure to bring plenty of future business to the grocery store.

A new feature of Publix Super Markets that has been in development this year is allowing their customers the option of ordering their subs online and then swinging by the store to pick them up. This new idea has been a favorite with customers seeing as how they won’t have to wait in line to get their subs if they choose not to anymore. This feature has only been available for a few select stores as it is still in development. The new Publix at Town Park is expecting this feature sometime in the beginning of next year.

The new Publix is located at Town Park (Store #1440) 12231 East Colonial Drive Orlando, FL 32826
