UCF Men’s Soccer
UCF will face a winless Akron men’s soccer team Friday, raising hopes for the win but also raising concerns given the performance the team has made on the road, losing both of its away games against Portland and Oregon State, respectively.
UCF soccer defenseman Leonardo Ayala speaks for the team on the two day event [this weekend/September 12th and 14th]. “I’m super excited… I’m definitely looking forward to the atmosphere and looking to play through it.”
Although the Knights (1-2-0) will have a win under their belt when they face the Zips (0-2-1) at Cub Cadet Field, Akron will boast a 2010 NCAA Championship and a 119-15-17 home field record held since 2007.
UCF has taken 33 shots for the year but only has one goal to show for it, having been shut out their first two games. Nevertheless, Akron has named Romario Williams the player to watch after his performance in the last-minute win against FAU (0-3-1), adding a seventh game winning goal in his 2013 and 2014 season.
The Knights will face Akron on September 12th at 7:00pm ET and the College of Charleston on September 14th at 12:00pm ET. This Friday’s match will mark the first time that these two programs, Akron and Central Florida have met in program history.
UCF Women’s Soccer
UCF women’s soccer will face the Texas Longhorns for the second time in program history this Friday at USF’s Corbett Stadium, followed by the Oregon State Beavers who UCF will play for the first time in program history.
The Knights (3-2-0) will be coming back from a 0-1 loss against Georgia to take on the unbeaten Longhorns (4-0-2) at 4:30pm ET.
“Georgia was very dangerous and they’re a very good team. I expect they are going to do well this season,” said head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak in response to the loss. “We’ve got some work ahead of us this week. The only thing you really can do is learn from this and bounce back.”
The women’s soccer team holds an all-time record in the regular season of 35-16-2 in neutral site games and have not dropped a regular season match on a neutral field since 2007.
