UCF students hopping in an Uber ride will enjoy the “winter slump” price slashes announced by the ride-sharing company.

On Friday starting at noon, Uber is launching their massive 48-city price cut, including Orlando, that decreases the standard fare rate to 75 cents per mile and base fare rate to $1. Previously, the standard fare rate was $1.20 per mile with a $1.25 base fare rate.

For example, an average ride from the UCF-area to downtown Orlando would be dropped to around $15 to $18 compared to $25 to $28 before the price cuts.

Despite slashing the prices on Uber rides, the company is guaranteeing that their drivers will see increased earnings.

“We’re so confident in the earnings gains drivers will see that we’re making earnings guarantees in every city where we’re cutting prices,” Uber said in a blog post. “More demand turns into significantly more efficiency for the driver, more trips for every hour, and more earnings for every hour on the road.”

Uber used Chicago as an example, where the Uber rates are the cheapest in the country. In the blog post Uber said “fares are 23% less and drivers are making 12% more in fares per hour”.
