The first major hurricane in the Atlantic for the 2015 hurricane season, Hurricane Danny, caught force Friday morning.
Danny is now a category three hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The maximum wind speed of Hurricane Danny is expected to reach an estimate of 115 mph (185 km/h) with higher gusts, according to the NHC.
“No additional intensification is expected, as Danny is moving into an area of unfavorable upper-level winds, and a weakening trend is expected to begin later today. Consequently, no adjustment to the forecast intensities from the previous advisory is required,” a NHC statement said.
The path so far shows Hurricane Danny moving westward towards the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico.
