ORLANDO, Fla. — Coach George O’Leary named Bo Schneider the UCF Knight’s starting quarterback heading into the Furman game at a press conference on Monday.

“I think thing would have turned out probably a lot better for [Schneider] without the dropped passes,” said O’Leary. “He had a good feel for what’s going on; he gets rid of the ball in time.”

The true freshman went 7 of 19 for 46 yards and threw one interception in his unexpected debut for the Knights. Schneider will take the reins of the young Knight offense this Saturday against the Furman Paladins and will be the starter for the foreseeable future after Justin Holman’s injury in the Stanford game.

“During the game, [Bo Schneider] does have those qualities of a leader because when he came in he’s like ‘just keep it going, let’s go’ and he was talking to everyone,” redshirt senior guard Tarik Cook said.

O’Leary said at the press conference that Holman is likely to miss two to four weeks with the hand injury he suffered in the first series of the game.

“It wasn’t as serious as they thought out in San Fransisco when they first told me about it, but it is still enough that [Holman] has to let some sutures heal and all that type thing,” said O’Leary. “But he’ll be back as soon as he can be back knowing Justin and he’ll work the rehab as much as he can work it to get back as soon as he can.”

Coach O’Leary also noted that redshirt freshman Tyler Harris would be the backup to Schneider and could see reps if it were necessary to win the game.
