The running back has been dismissed from the UCF football program and released from his scholarship after a noncompliance with athletic policy and team rules, according to UCF football head coach George O’Leary.

When O’Leary spoke at Monday’s weekly news conference, specific information was not given on Stanback’s dismissal. Emerging reports from ESPN and USA Today Sports point to marijuana tests given to the student-athlete, who subsequently failed the tests.

Stanback played in two games out of the opening three games of the 2015 season, rushing for 12 yards on 11 carries. In 2014, the then sophomore earned all-conference honors, rushing for 697 yards and 10 touchdowns on 189 carries.

According to ESPN, Stanback stated he is likely to transfer, sit out the 2016 season and play as a redshirt senior. He has been prohibited by UCF from transferring to FIU, FAU, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Maryland, Stanford, BYU and Texas.

UCF’s Sept. 26 match-up against South Carolina kicks off at 12 p.m. ET. KnightNews.com will be at USC’s Williams-Bryce Stadium to bring you coverage of Saturday’s game.
