Storm Johnson was cut Friday as the Jacksonville Jaguars intensify the pre-season process of trimming their roster down to 53 players.
Johnson played in six games for the Jaguars in 2014, averaging 3.0 yards per carry while amassing 86 yards and two touchdowns on 29 attempts. He only had one reception which was blown up in the backfield for a four yard loss.
He starred at UCF in 2013 before being drafted by the Jaguars in the seventh round of the 2014 draft, leading the Knights with 1139 yards and 14 touchdowns as the team won it’s only BCS bowl game in school history.
The Jaguars drafted running back T.J. Yeldon out of Alabama with the fourth pick of the second round in the most recent NFL draft and have retained running backs Toby Gerhart, Corey Grant, Bernard Pierce and hybrid running back – wide receiver Denard Robinson in addition to their 2015 draft pick.
Franchise cornerstone Blake Bortles had played on the same squad as Storm Johnson since the 2012 season at UCF.
