In a dramatic decision just days before UCF’s first game of the season, the NCAA has declared that 7-foot-6 center Tacko Fall will be eligible to continue his education at UCF on academic scholarship.
His eligibility had been called into question when the NCAA began to evaluate his alma mater of Liberty Christian Prep earlier last year. The school itself has not yet been fully certified by the NCAA, but had previously approved the core classes that Fall took prior to getting into UCF.
Tacko’s heartfelt letter to the NCAA had made its way around the internet over the course of the week with the heavy cloud of not being able to join the team at the onset of the season looming over his head, detailing his tumultuous experience in learning basketball and finding a home in America.
UCF has not yet left for the season opener away from home, and the hopeful engineer will be able to travel with the team on the way to play against Davidson on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. His home debut should be a spectacle when the Knights take on U.C. Irvine at the CFE Arena, featuring two 7-foot-6 players for the first time in history with Irvine’s Mamadou N’Diaye coming to town.
