Out with the old and in with the new. Head coach Scott Frost has his new defensive coordinator.

The University of Oregon’s outside linebacker coach is headed to Orlando to lead the UCF defense, according to a report from FootballScoop.com.

According to UCFSports.com, the report coincided with an Oregon press release stating that Chinander would be leaving to “coach at another FBS institution.”

This isn’t a surprise. The two were close friends while coaching at Oregon and the potential of Chinander heading to UCF was rumored shortly after Frost’s hire in early December, according to UCFSports.com.

Chinander just finished his second season with the Ducks, losing 47-41 in triple overtime to TCU in the Alamo Bowl. Chinander had a strong reputation as one of Oregon’s best recruiters, according to UCFSports.com.

Chinander joined Frost in Oregon in 2010 where he spent three seasons as a graduate assistant under Chip Kelly. He then spent a season in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles as an assistant defensive lineman coach during the 2013 season.
