The University of Central Florida College Democrats will be hosting an annual rally and march Wednesday to “put an end to rape culture and empower individuals to feel safe no matter what they wear,” according to a press release.

The event, called Slut Walk, will be held at the Student Union soundstage from noon to 2 p.m.

The event is part of an international movement to bring awareness to sexual harassment and the idea that women would be safer from unwanted advances if they stopped dressing provocatively.

“This movement was started because Toronto Police stated that if women wanted to stop being sexually harassed they should ‘stop dressing like sluts,'” the press release said. “The College Democrats, along with other progressive organizations, believe that it is important to bring this movement on a college campus.”

Five confirmed speakers will be attending the event, including College Democrats President Nikki Mariutto, UCF alumna Chelsea Daley, Kayla Infantino, who will be representing the National Organization for Women’s UCF chapter, Democratic candidate for the Florida House’s 47th District Linda Stewart, and UCF student Ashley Joyce-Nyack.

Following the speeches, those who attend the rally will be invited to march to the Reflection Pond and back to the Union to stand in solidarity with victims of sexual harassment.

The UCF College Democrats have been hosting the rally since 2011.
