Scott Frost, who led the UCF football team to a perfect season in 2017, was fired today from Nebraska, the team he left the Knights for.
Nebraska Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics, Trev Alberts, made the announcement via the Cornhuskers’ social media today after a “disappointing” start to the 2022 season which included a gut wrenching 45-42 loss to Sun Belt conference team, Georgia Southern on Saturday.
“Earlier today I met with Coach Frost and informed him we were making a change in the leadership of our football program, effective immediately,” Alberts said. “Scott has poured his heart and soul into the Nebraska Football program both as a quarterback and head coach, and I appreciate his work and dedication. After the disappointing start to our season, I decided the best path forward for our program was to make a change in our head coaching position.”
Frost will be replaced by interim head coach Mickey Joseph for the remainder of the 2022 season. The change will make Joseph the first black head coach in school history.
Frost who served as the head coach for the Knights from the 2016 and 2017 seasons, helped lead the Knights to a 13-0 perfect record in 2017 where UCF defeated then Auburn coach Gus Malzahn’s Tigers in the Peach Bowl to self-declare themselves National Champions.
Frost then proceeded to leave the Knights in 2018 to return to his alma mater Nebraska to head coach the cornhuskers in the Big 10 Conference.
Frost could never get things going with Nebraska as he accumulated a 16-31 record that saw his team have a 10-26 record against Big 10 Conference opponents and an 0-14 record against ranked opponents.
Next up, Nebraska will take on the number six ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday at 12 p.m. in the team’s first game without the former UCF head coach.
