Today, UCF announced the passing of UCF Offensive Line coach, Shawn Clark.

Clark was hospitalized on September 9th, 2025 following a medical emergency, but UCF head coach Scott Frost said that he was in “stable condition” and others close to him said that he was making progress towards recovery.  Unfortunately, Clark passed away on Sunday, September 21st at the age of 50.

Shawn Clark was a linebacker at Appalachian State, and returned to his alma mater as an offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator before he took the job as head coach of Appalachian State in 2019. Clark came to UCF as an offensive line coach in 2025 with the hire of Scott Frost.

Coach Frost commented in a statement following his passing, “Shawn was so much more than a coach. He was a remarkable man, husband, and father who cared deeply about his players and staff. The reaction of our players and coaches to the news this morning is a testament to Shawn’s character and the impact he had on every life that he touched. He was loved. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Jonelle, and children, Giana and Braxton. We are here to support them and will continue to keep them in our hearts and prayers.”

UCF Athletics Director, Terry Mohajir also stated “We are heartbroken by Shawn’s passing. He brought passion, integrity, and a genuine love for people to everything he did. Shawn will be remembered not only for his impact on the game of football, but also for the relationships he built and the example he set as a husband and father.”

The passing of Shawn Clark is deeply saddening for all staff, coaches, players and everyone in the UCF community.
