Continuing a trend of the UCF football team’s offseason, senior offensive guard Theo Goins was selected for a spot on the 2012 Outland Trophy Watch List Thursday, the Football Writers Association of America announced.
Goins is the sixth Knight to represent the team on a Preseason Watch List this year, joining teammates Jordan Rae, Quincy McDuffie, Latavius Murray, Rannell Hall and Jonathan Davis.
Rae earned the Rimington Trophy for the top center, while McDuffie, Murray, Hall and Davis all received CFPA trophies.
Goins is the latest of the UCF football team’s accomplishments this offseason, being on the watch list for one of the most prestigious college football awards as the Outland Trophy is given to the best interior lineman in the country.
Goins, who was an All-C-USA Honorable Mention pick last season, started 10 games last year and has made at least five starts each season as a Knight. The 6’4″, 317-pound Houston, Texas native has played in 31 games at UCF and has been an integral part of the team’s offensive line.
Torell Troup was the last Knight to be on the Outland Trophy Watch List.
Goins has a good shot at winning the Outland Trophy if he continues to improve as he has done since his freshman year.
