UCF (2-2-2) squares off tonight against the No. 12 Charlotte 49ers (5-1-2) at home, where they seek their first win on their own turf. The Knights have accrued a loss and a tie at home while going 2-1-1 on the road this season.
The last two contests have ended tortuously for UCF, both concluding in double overtime draws. The silver lining for the Knights offense are the four goals scored over that span. Over the course of the season, nine of UCF’s total ten goals have come in the second period, indicating that while potent, the offense is slow to start. If the spark could be found early enough the Knights pose a threat to any team.
The nationally ranked 49ers are the first ranked opponent the Knights have faced since falling to No.11 Old dominion early in the season at home. Charlotte has high expectations this year after finishing last year in a bittersweet fashion, losing the National Championship game to UNC.
However, the 49ers are winless in their last two games, getting shutout Saturday against Elon University and battling to a 1-1 tie with UNC Greensboro on the 15th.
Shot leader McKauly Tulloch looks to improve his efficiency, as 3 of his 23 shots have found the back of the net, while Deshorn Brown has put in five goals to lead the Knights. In the last two matches Brown has been absolutely clutch, hitting a late goal in each to keep his team alive.
With a win tonight, UCF would improve to over .500 for the first time since winning their opening match of the season.
The game will be played at the UCF soccer complex and begins at 7 PM.
