UCF will be hosting a full scale emergency exercise, bringing in over 1,000 participants across Central Florida for a simulated emergency exercise while the students are away on spring break.
On Thursday, March 12 starting at 9 a.m. the UCF campus will go into full emergency simulation mode. Those on campus may hear alarms, loud noises, a large visible presence of emergency vehicles on the campus and see at least one helicopter landing on Memory Mall.
The event, which is closed to the public, will include federal and state agencies, 15 area hospitals, state universities and colleges, community partners and more.
The event will take place on the northeast side of campus near Memory Mall. Access to a portion of Memory Mall, Classroom II, the Visual Arts Building, the Performing Arts Center, and the area between the buildings will be closed off to the public during the training exercise.
According to a release, UCF is hosting the exercise to enhance emergency response between the Central Florida community. Local police officers, fire fighters, hospitals and local first response teams will all get to work together during this event.
Due to spring break, no classes will be affected by the training exercise.
