Tropical Depression 9 has upgraded to Tropical Storm Hermine.
Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency this morning for 42 counties as tropical depression 9 continues to hold offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
The state of emergency covers all of Central Florida except Oceola County.
Weather officials expected the storm to transition into a tropical storm Tuesday night although current forecasts show the system as still a tropical depression with the potential to strengthen and better organize before making landfall. The largest threats to Central Florida are strong gusts and heavy rain.
Past forecasts showed the storm moving through Central Florida directly – current forecasts have the storm further North, moving through the Tallahassee area directly.
There has been no word on whether classes will be cancelled.
