Orlando City Soccer Club led a dedication event at its new downtown soccer stadium for the victims of the Pulse nightclub attack, a mass that took place on June 12, 2016, near downtown Orlando.
Section 12 of the new stadium will hold 49 rainbow-colored seats on a promise to permanently honor the victims and families of the tragedy.
“Club Life-President Phil Rawlins — who was recently awarded the Presidential Recognition Award by Major League Soccer (MLS) and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for the Club’s community leadership in the wake of the tragedy — thanked Front Office staff and construction partners for their diligent work and dedication to the project,” the soccer club stated in a release.
“With this tribute, Orlando City SC hopes fans and those who visit the stadium from around the world always remember the City Beautiful for its inclusive, diverse and welcoming community.”
The Lions will kick off its 2017 MLS campaign on March 5 against New York City FC at the new stadium.
