The University of Central Florida Police Department arrested a doctoral student accused of recent incidents on campus where women were touched by an unknown man, police said.
Abdullah Mohammed Zaman, 30, was arrested on three counts of battery – first-degree misdemeanor and one count of attempted battery. UCFPD said in a release they intend to file at large for a fifth battery charge.
Surveillance video and Wi-Fi and digital key logs helped police identify Zaman as a suspect, according to UCF Police. Zaman is accused of also touching women in November. Four of the five victims also positively selected Zaman out of a photo lineup and identified him as the man who approached them.
Zaman is a current student working toward a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, police said. Since he is a student, Zaman will go through the Office of Student Conduct. He has been booked to the county jail and will be trespassed from campus.
“Generally, when a student is arrested by UCFPD, the department notifies the Office of Student Conduct so that appropriate action can be taken to ensure campus safety,” UCF Police said.
