Coach O’Leary fielded questions from the media and discussed his hopes for a successful 2009 football season during Friday’s Media Day for the UCF Knights football team at Brighthouse Stadium.

O’Leary spoke of the disappointment last year. “We truly were an eight win football team that had a lot of bad luck,” he said.

Injuries to both sides of the ball, a young offensive line and a couple of bad breaks made the 2008 football season a season to forget.

Lucky for us Knights fans, it’s now 2009, and this year the team looks as though it has a personal vendetta this season.

“The offense has a chip on their shoulders and you can definitely see how hard they’re working in practice,” O’Leary said.

A month from now the Knights will start the new season and another run at the Conference USA Championship.

Over the next month, I will break down the strengths and weaknesses of all positions for our Knights, as well as provide video and interviews with Knights players and coaches.

Below is the schedule for each position preview.

Wednesday August 12, 2009- Defensive Line and Linebackers

Wednesday August 19, 2009- Defensive backs and Special Teams

Wednesday August 26, 2009- Offensive Line and Running Backs

Wednesday September 2, 2009- Quarterbacks and Wide Receivers

There is a different feeling during practice in the Nicholson Fieldhouse this season.

The Knights have improved on both sides of the ball and have their sights on a winning season this year. We have a month until our first game and from the looks at practices, this team is definitely going to be ready.

We’ve got a game with the Samford Bulldogs September 5 and that means only one thing: bad news for the Bulldogs!
