A lot of coaches use the “one game at a time” cliché’ but this was clearly not one that is familiar with Coach George O’Leary.
Looking ahead to the Knights’ upcoming Homecoming game vs. Houston next week, Coach O’Leary decided to sit Brett Hodges (ribs) and Brynn Harvey (ankle). Three starting offensive lineman were also absent today in UCF’s loss to Texas 35-3.
Rob Calabrese started the game but couldn’t get things going as he threw for 76 yards on 10 of 19 completions. Calabrese was constantly being pressured and was taken down for a sack six times.
Johnathan Davis was one of the lone bright spots today as he rushed 22 times for 71 yards. Look for Davis to split the carries with Harvey next weekend vs. Houston.
With the score 21-3, Texas had the ball on their own 1 yard line and it appeared as though the Knights took down Texas RB in the end zone for a safety. Apparently home field advantage was in full effect as the officials failed to make the right call on the field and in the replay booth.
Texas then failed to get a first down and looked as though the Knights would get the ball back but not so fast Knights fans. On a day where Texas got every favorable spot, the officials failed again to get it right on the field and in the replay booth.
A dejected Knights defense realized they also were playing against the referees as the next play resulted in an 88 yard touchdown pass to put Texas up 28-3.
Looking ahead, the Knights need to bounce back against #13 Houston in our Homecoming Game. Saturday’s game is a black out so wear your black and come cheer your Knights on to victory. Saturday’s game starts at Noon and tailgating starts at 7 am, so get pumped for a big game this Saturday.
