Last night, Universal Orlando Resort held a lighting ceremony for the attraction. Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who plays Harry Potter in the movies, counted down and then pointed his wand to the castle as it lit up. A fireworks show followed.
Universal Orlando is calling the new Harry Potter attraction “the most highly anticipated entertainment experience of 2010.”
It took more than five years to make the attraction spanning 20-acres. It was inspired by J.K. Rowling’s stories and characters, and includes several themed experiences that make even muggles feel like they’re pupils of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry Potter’s school.
One attraction is called Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. It’s one one of three major attractions within The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, including Flight of the Hippogriff and Dragon Challenge, according to Universal.
Of course there are themed gift shops as well, where you can even buy “butterbeer,” buy your own wizard wand and bring the magic of Harry Potter to life.
