If you’re into kicking back, relaxing and just having a good time, then Ballyhoo is the band for you.
Hailing from Aberdeen, Maryland the band comprises of its two founding members and brothers, Howi Spangler (vocals, guitar) and Big D (drums), along with DJ Blaze (keyboards, programming, turntables) and JR Gregory (bass). Their sound blends together a mixture of punk rock and reggae, with some acoustic pieces thrown in occasionally, to produce songs all about partying and good times with friends. Fans of bands such as Pepper, Slightly Stoopid, Sublime, or The Expendables, will surely appreciate what Ballyhoo has to offer.

The band has also recently hit a milestone in their career, when they were signed to LAW Records, a label who boasts great bands such as Pepper, Iration, Passafire, and Orlando natives The Supervillains. This new deal also brings them to the recording studio right here in Orlando where they will be tracking their newest record this March.
Ballyhoo is currently on the Fresh Grounds Tour with Iration and Fiction 20 Down, and this past Saturday, they played downtown at Firestone Live. Fiction 20 Down did an excellent job opening up the show and getting the crowd warmed up for Ballyhoo to take the stage. Ballyhoo took the stage around 9:50 and opened up with “Grooverock” which immediately got the crowd moving on their feet and their hands up in the air.
The rest of the show was full of party rock hits like “Everything,” “Alcohol,” and their newest single “The Front Porch.” Also some more laid back songs including “Cali Girl,” “Somewhere Tropical,” and “Scarlet Blue” were played. In the end, Ballyhoo put on a spectacular show. They definitely were a tough act to follow and if anyone is ever looking to go out a have a good time for a good price, then make sure to catch Ballyhoo the next time they come to play Orlando.
I was able to meet up with Ballyhoo before they took stage that night and we discussed their current tour, new album in the works, and even them being featured in the game Rock Band. You can check out the video of the entire interview here:
