The UCF baseball team held it’s 2011 media day on Tuesday afternoon, where media took part in batting practice and reporters interviewed coaches and players from the 2011 squad.
Head coach Terry Rooney released his starting pitchers for Friday and Saturday’s matchup with Sienna. Junior Danny Winkler will get the nod as UCF’s ace on Friday while Matt Collins will throw for the Knights on Saturday. Rooney said he will announce Sunday’s starter to the team after a scrimmage and will announce it tonight on the AlumKnight Live show from 7-9 p.m. at the MOAT Sports Bar and Grill.
“There is no question, we are obviously very excited for the season ahead,” Rooney said. “No matter what sport you are in, in the offseason you just can’t wait to get to your first game. Obviously our opening game of the season is Friday night so we have high expectations for the season ahead.”
Numerous players spent time talking to the media, including returners Ronnie Richardson, Beau Taylor and Chris Taladay. Rooney broke down his expectations for the team and talked about the pitching staff among other topics with the media.
UCF will open the season Friday night when they take on Sienna at 6:30 p.m. from Jay Bergman Field.
