Whether it’s their improvisational act on stage, their ability to enlighten both the electronic and jam obsessed, or simply their non-chalant approach to conversing with their fans, The Disco Biscuits are more than just a good band, but a group of eclectic personalities playing for a goodtime. After seeing them for the twelfth time on Sunday at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, my great thoughts about them were confirmed, especially after chatting with guitarist, Barber (Jon Gutwillig) on a walk along the Miami bay.
“I’m so happy we’re playing here again for the second time at Ultra. The festival is awesome, the fans are great and the weather is good. Before our shows tomorrow, I just plan to take it easy, drink champagne and enjoy the music,” Barber explained.
Playing for two decades now, the Biscuits have transformed their music several times but their fans seem to be more loyal than ever. Though Ultra boasts electronic music all weekend long, the Disco Biscuits still attracted their jam fans to the third day of Ultra, who strictly attended just to see their set and catch their show at Grand Central later that evening.
With plans to drop a new album this year, Barber couldn’t stop talking about his excitement for its release and the tenth anniversary of their annual festival, Camp Bisco. “We have some crazy stuff planned this year, it’s going to be great. The line-up is awesome and upstate New York is always a good time.” Though he wouldn’t give out too many hints on Camp this year, according to Barber, their new album is apparently one to be loved and true “Disco Biscuit music.”
With that in mind and having a fantastic time seeing them at UMF 2011, I can’t wait to buy a copy of their album and experience a ravishing weekend at Camp Bisco.
