With the UCF athletics media coverage primarily centering around the football and basketball team, Knightnews.com wants to make sure that all of UCF sports get there fair share of media attention.

So, here is the first edition of This Week In UCF Sports, which recaps what happened last week, as well as previewing upcoming events.

Football

The Knights suffered their second straight defeat, losing 24-17 to BYU in Provo, Utah.

Once again, UCF shot themselves in the foot, committing crucial turnovers that allowed BYU to gain control and ultimately win the game.

The Knights had a 17-10 lead late in the third quarter, but Cody Hoffman returned a kickoff for 93 yards that gave BYU the momentum.

The Knights will try to rebound when they return to Bright House Networks Stadium to face Marshall in their first conference game of the year.

Men’s Soccer

The men’s soccer team had its seven-game unbeaten streak come to and when FGCU won 2-1 for the Knights first loss of the season. It was the best start for the Knights since they joined the Division I ranks in 1984.

UCF finished with a 17-9 shot advantage and a 9-4 edge in corner kicks, but Ben Hunt mustered the team’s only goal in the game.

Still, the Knights are ranked No. 10 in the country and are led by top scorer McKauly Tulloch, who leads the nation in points.

UCF has their sights on winning the conference, as well as reaching their second straight NCAA tournament.

Next up for the men’s soccer team is a matchup with Kentucky Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex.

Women’s Soccer

The No. 13 UCF Women’s Soccer team saw its six-game unbeaten streak come to an end in a 1-0 loss to SMU last week.

However, they finished the week on a good note in a come from behind victory over Tulsa. Stacie Hubbard scored the game winning goal for the Knights to give them a 2-1 win.

Next up for the Knights is a home game vs UTEP on Friday at 7 p.m.

Women’s Volleyball

The women’s volleyball team is off to a historic start at 10-4 and are one of Conference-USA’s most improved teams.

They split last week’s games, with a 3-0 victory over SMU and then 3-1 loss to Tulsa. They now sit at 2-1 in league play.

The women’s volleyball team is entering the heart of its league schedule. Up next is a road game at East Carolina University.

Men’s Tennis

Juan Bolona and Mitch Thams won the main draw doubles title at the inaugural State of Florida Championships. The pair went 4-0 at the tournament.

They return to action on Oct. 7 at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational in Winter Park.

Women’s Tennis

The UCF women’s tennis team finished the UCF Quad Tournament on Sunday. On the final day, UCF won five of six single matches, as well as a doubles win over USF.

Alexis Rodriguez led the Knights in singles, beating Sara Lazarevich 6-4, 6-3.

Up next for the Knights is the ITA All-American Prequalifying tournament in Los Angeles, Calif.

Men’s Golf

The little talked about Knights golf team is  ranked 25th nationally according to Golfweek. They claimed the title at the Adams Cup of Newport. They finished the event -18 and three Knights finished in the top-10 individually.

Ricardo Gouveia was named the C-USA Golfer of the Week after finishing first at the Adams Cup of Newport.

UCF will return to action on Oct. 9 at the Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.

Women’s Golf

The Knights finished 10th overall in the Dale McNamara Invitational from The Patriot Golf Club.

Katie Mitchell was the Knights top performer, finished No. 19.

UCF returns to action Sept. 30 for the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational.
