In this exciting third installment of the weekly UCF sports wrap up, we cover everything from UCF being in the thick of conference realignment, a rainy conference home opener, as well as volleyball, soccer and tennis.

Football

The Knights snapped their two-game losing streak Saturday night with a win over Marshall. UCF returned to Bright House Stadium and prevailed in a wet 16-6 victory over lowly conference foe Marshall.

Brynn Harvey rushed for 180 yards on 30 carries in his first start in 22 months after overcoming tearing his ACL in spring drills back in 2010.  The Knights finally threw their first touchdown pass of the season, a five-yard pass from Jeff Godfrey to A.J. Guyton. They have now won seven straight over the Thundering Herd.

Next up is the SMU Mustangs in Dallas, where the Knights will be visiting for the first time since 2007 and look to to stay unbeaten in C-USA play against a Kyle Padron-led passing attack.
Men’s Soccer

After a second straight win over a ranked opponent, the No. 6 UCF Men’s Soccer takes on FIU in Miami Tuesday night. Looking to get revenge for a horrendous football loss, the Knights (8-1-1, 2-0-0 C-USA) haven’t seen action in a bit because of a rained out game against South Carolina.  As one of two remaining undefeated teams in conference play, the Knights will head to Birmingham Saturday to meet up against UAB.

Women’s Soccer

Women’s soccer is coming of a nice 2-0 win at ECU,  improving them to (8-2-4, 3-1-2 C-USA).  The No. 24 ranked Knights also played a scoreless draw against Marshall and will finish their four game road trip Friday at Rice and Sunday at Houston.  They are 5-1-2 on the road this season.

Men’s Golf

The No. 15 golf team is going back to Cali for The Prestige at PGA WEST Sunday at the Greg Norman Course.  Looking for a little California love, this event features five of the top-30 squads including No. 2 Oregon, and top ranked Stanford and Washington.  The Knights are looking to claim their third title in three attempts, but are sitting at 15 after one round of play with a score of 297 (+9).  Along with Duke, UCF is the only other east coast team to be in the field.

Men’s Tennis

Due to heavy rain, the C. L. Varner Memorial Invitational was canceled.  The next event is Oct. 20 in Athens, Ga at the ITA Regionals.

Women’s Tennis

Similar to the men’s team, the UCF Women’s Tennis team was rained out the majority of the weekend.  They were competing in the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational as well and will  commence action in Gainesville, Fla., for the ITA Regionals Oct. 21-24.
