The Rutgers Scarlet Knights officially accepted their invite to the Big Ten on Monday.
Sources told ESPN that the Scarlet Knights will start playing in the conference in 2014-2015 and that they will be officially introduced as new members to the conference on Tuesday.
The latest reconfiguration of college athletics comes soon after all of the conference realignment had finally slowed down, however, with Rutgers being the most recent team to ditch out on the Big East, there may be more.
The Big East had already lost Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the ACC earlier this year. The Big East, which was an automatic qualifying conference is getting marginalized as the PAC 12, Big Ten, SEC, ACC, and and Big 12 are leaving the distraught conference behind.
Houston may also have a chance to leave the conference without penalty if the TV revenue numbers are not achieved. Houston, one of the teams joining UCF to leave Conference USA, negotiated their contract to leave the conference if they are not satisfied with the TV revenue numbers.
With Navy joining the Big East in 2015, that will bring the total amount of members to 13, Big East Commissioner has expressed interest in adding a 14th team.
