A University of Central Florida student was arrested on DUI and property-damage charges Sunday after she hit a trooper on University Boulevard and drove away, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Gina Garcia-Ronquillo, 18

According to the Sentinel, Gina Thais Garcia Ronquillo, 18, hit FHP trooper Josh Evan’s car at about 12:40 a.m. while he was outside investigating a crash, pushing the car into him and hurting his left leg.

Garcia-Ronquillo then took of driving down University while Evans climbed into his damaged vehicle and pursued her, officials say. The officer then used a maneuver known as the PIT technique, involving intentionally hitting a suspects vehicle in order to spin the vehicle out and stop the pursuit, according to CF News 13. Evans stopped her at Suntree Boulevard, handcuffed her and had her perform field-sobriety tests, which she failed, the outlet said.

Garcia-Ronquillo told the trooper she had been at the University of Central Florida watching a One Direction movie with her friends and had only drank orange juice, Local 6 reports.

Local 6 news says she then told the officer that she was “a good person, a Christian, she was in college and had a good GPA.” FHP said she then told them they should be “out catching real criminals.”

Officials say she blew nearly double the legal limit and was booked into the Orange County Jail.

Officer Evans was treated at a local hospital and released Monday.
