A severe over-budgeting within UCF’s AS&F is forcing the University to cut $1.45 million from the budget.
“The total number of student credit hours this fall is now projected to be about 1.5 percent lower than our number of actual credit hours last fall,” UCF spokesperson Chad Binette said. “As a result of the actual number of credit hours falling below projections, the university expects to generate about $1.45 million less in activity and service fees than anticipated.”
UCF is planning to trim expenses and also use activity and service fee reserves to limit the impact on students.
“Those discussions are in the early stages,” Binette said.
During Thursday night’s SGA Senate meeting, our reporters asked SGA Advisor Matt Betz about the shortfall and possible effects of the cuts, such as less gym hours, however, he would not answer our questions. During his report to the Senators, he mentioned nothing about the massive budget gap.
This gap represents 7.7 percent of the total $18.8 million activity and service fee budget that was approved in the spring.
