This past Sunday NASCAR held it’s myAfiBrisk.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway in Chicago, Illinois. The victor of this most anticipated race was, to the surprise of many, the very tenacious Denny Hamlin.
The myAFibRisk.com 400 is one of three Challenger round races of the Sprint Cup Series that decide the Top Sixteen drivers in the running for Sprint Cup Champion. After 267 laps, Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards and Kurt Busch claimed the top three spots.
Despite good reason to celebrate for some drivers, Kevin Harvick suffered a devastating setback, coming in forty-second place. This setback was a result of Jimmie Johnson’s attempt to get ahead, but accidentally collided with Harvick’s car causing the tire on Harvick’s car to blow up after his several laps around the track in an attempt to continue the race. After the race, drama ensues as Jimmie Johnson is seen near Harvick’s trailer as the two men exchanged words. Harvick aggressively “pokes” Johnson on the chest and Johnson is seen walking away as members of Harvick’s entourage restrain him (Harvick) from a possible escalation in the dialogue between the two drivers. Fortunately for Harvick, his “air pressure” held in tact in order to avoid further embarrassment.
Whether it is on the race track or away from it, the quest to be the dominant force is evident in every aspect of this fiercely competitive sport.
