Don’t have anything planned for this weekend? It’s family weekend. Call up your parents, siblings, or even grandparents and have them visit UCF for the exciting weekends planned by the Pegasus Parent Program. The activities will start Friday, Sept. 18.
Family weekend check in will start at about 5 o’clock on Friday but just in case they arrive a little early the Healthy Knights Tour kicks off at 1 p.m. The first event is a tour of the Recreation and Wellness center followed by an open house where your family can learn about programs the center offers to promote good health and fitness on campus. Right after that there will be a few short tours at the Health Services building and Counseling/Psychology Services. There they can learn about the many mental health programs as well as just general doctor visits that are offered at these facilities.
Friday Knight Welcome is the official welcoming event that UCF is hosting with food and entertainment. Families can check in at Pegasus Ballroom in the Student Union starting at 5 p.m. Everything from campus tours to a dessert reception and even a comedy show is on the schedule of events for the night. If you are interested in attending a UCF Athletics event, the women’s soccer team is playing Georgetown starting at 5:30 p.m. Following the women’s game is men’s game versus Grand Canyon at 8 p.m. Your family can pick up any UCF gear they may need at the bookstore and then head over to the Track & Soccer Field.
If you are in the mood to watch a play or a movie you have that option, as well. The Understudy, a play by Theresa Rebeck will begin at 8 p.m. in the theatre on campus, tickets for the play are $20 standard ticket, $18 senior ticket, or $10 student ticket with a UCF ID. There will also be a Jurassic Park ‘Movie Knight’ starting at 8 p.m. outside at the RWC Leisure Pool, that event does not require a ticket purchase.
Your family can’t arrive until Saturday? No worries! There is a check in event Saturday morning as well starting at 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Office of Student Involvement is hosting a Jazz Breakfast at 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a $20 ticket purchase. The Office of Student Involvement, members of the Student Development & Enrollment Services Leadership team, and members of the Police Department will all be there to enjoy the relaxing jazz music and a nice breakfast to start the day. If you aren’t able to make the Jazz Breakfast, Lead Scholars will be hosting a brunch & indoor tailgate to kick off game day. The brunch starts at 10 a.m. and the tailgate will follow into the afternoon.
If your family wants to learn more about academic or financial services, there will be a few informational meetings they can attend from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Starting at 3:30 is the UCF Athletics’ pre-game tailgate sponsored by Sonny’s BBQ. Enjoy some pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, brownies and sweet tea. Tickets for this event are first come, first serve and there are a limited amount. The Pre-game Tailgate and Game ticket is $59. If you are a season ticket holder or UCF Student you can purchase just the Pre-game Tailgate for $33. Kickoff for the UCF vs. Furman game will be at 6 o’clock.
If your family plans on staying until Sunday there will be a Dean’s Welcome Brunch at the UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management starting at 10 a.m. There are three different times you can sign up for brunch 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. The Knight themed brunch will host entertainment by Medieval Times in the courtyard so all attendees are encouraged to arrive 45 minutes early. The Family Weekend Brunch is free for current UCF Rosen College students, and $10 for each family member or guest. Children five and under are $5.
