October 4th was an exhilarating race day for some, yet a stressful day for others. The AAA 400 – also known as the “Monster Mile” – held at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware weeded out racers to finish filling up the Contender 12 spots in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

It was a grueling 400 laps with few leader switches, changing up the pace from last week’s Sylvania 300. The accidents were kept to a minimal as well, beginning with Jimmie Johnson’s car trouble – a caution was placed due to debris and Johnson was forced to take his car to the garage, ultimately falling extremely behind in the race. AJ Allmendinger finished up a list of cautions with a spin around the 301st lap, pushing him back in the race after his restart.

Making up for an embarrassingly terrible loss of fuel while nearing the end last week, this past Sunday Kevin Harvick’s tank proved to be steadfast in getting him to the finish line, giving him a win and a spot in the Contender 12. Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson followed suit, claiming second and third.

Once again The Chase continues to weed out drivers, slicing what is now 12 racers in half to determine the Eliminator 6 in the upcoming three races.
