Flat Land, a band from Gainesville, FL, was selected by popular vote as the winner of Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival’s “Battle of the Bands” after competing in an international competition including over 750 artists. The band will be playing alongside acts such as Mumford & Sons, Robert Plant, Kendrick Lamar, Skrillex, and Hall & Oates, among many other prominent musicians. Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival is in its inaugural year, and will take place March 4- 6, 2016 in Okeechobee, FL.
“We couldn’t be more honored to have an opportunity like this. Some of the musicians playing this festival are our heroes. It’s a dream come true to have a chance to play at the same event.” said Fae Nageon de Lestang, lead singer/violinist of Flat Land.
Flat Land has grabbed national attention from their distinct sound and high energy live performances, and has steadily built a grassroots fan base across the Eastern United States. The band has played other major music festivals such as Suwannee Hulaween, and was also recognized as MusicFestNews “Artist on the Rise” this past year.
The ethereal funk fusion quintet has a sound inspired by artists such as Beck, Led Zeppelin, Alabama Shakes, and Hiatus Kaiyote. Led by frontwoman Fae Nageon de Lestang (a descendant of pirates with buried treasure somewhere off the east coast of Africa), on vocals and electric violin, their live performances are a manifestation of a modern disco mixed with a 70s rock concert.
Outside of the studio, the band spends their time working to promote music education within their community. Flatland founded Future Music Makers this past spring along with electronic duo Bells & Robes and marketing firmPhairground. The organization works to create opportunities for youth to foster creativity and a passion for music in north central Florida.
