Las Vegas was already starting off as a bet for the drivers – minor rain and heavy winds (that had not been in attendance during practice runs earlier this weekend) caused a delay and raised anticipation in every one of the drivers. When enough of the rain was gone and debris was cleared off of the track, the racers set off to fight for a win against their competitors and the almost 50mph wind that was blowing around the track.
Kurt Busch played his cards right and started off in first place, leading the first 30 laps until the mandatory Competition Caution, where he then made the mistake of speeding off of Pit Road too quickly which caused him to be sent to the “back of the pack.”
Not much later, a water bottle ended up on the track, raising a second caution. That wasn’t the only debris in sight though – many drivers and their pit crews were wary of debris that caught on to the front end of the cars – even the smallest piece of paper in the wrong place could become an issue for the driver, so those small pieces were removed whenever drivers entered Pit Road.
It was a clean race from then on; Vegas seemed to had used up all of its tricks on these drivers before even reaching the end. Brad Keslowski came up front and led 24 laps, ultimately winning the Kobalt 400 – with Joey Logano and Jimmie Johnson following suit.
